Laid Off, Unemployed, Tips, Immediate Help

Wiped Out.......Often Simultaneously

MORE then JUST Your Job

Be aware there is more being lost here then just your job and you may or may not be able to recoup some of this if you act fast. Speed is again of the essence. If you have friends that MAY soon be laid off, be sure they read this.

Wiped Out.......Often Simultaneously

  • Your Job
  • Your Access To Your Company Owned Cell Phone Lists etc.
  • Your Computer Files, Photos, Lists in the company owned computer.
  • Your Industry Contact Lists
  • Uncertain: Your Personnel File
  • Some say it is yours, you are entitled to ask for and take it with you. Still to be determined definitively. We will keep you posted.

When notified of being Laid off and are handed the pink slip, many just walk you out the door, and they are counting on you being in shock and totally defenseless.

You can immediately be denied all access to your computer, and suddenly "total surprise" locked out of access and often are, in fear (apparently) that a departing employee may take something with you they do not want to leave the premises.

(one report says 60% of departing employees take something with them that was NOT theirs to take.)

Therefore they can wipe your former work computer and/or cell phone, clean and every personal thing you had is gone. You have NO recourse.

You may, before signing any papers request permission to access some of this which can be denied. You can also ask that they retrieve certain things for you.

So if you are still working or still have access, get this stuff off NOW that you want to take with your or will need to take with you.

A list of all your cell phone contacts in the industry can be essential, and may be the only record you have of access to many people you will need in your search for help in locating a new position.

The company industry contact lists remain the property of the company and may not be allowed to take them with you. May be a fine line here.

Remember, odds are the new position you will be searching for is going to most likely come through people you are in contact with, and contacts that they in turn know, so keep the number as large as you can to improve your odds..

Be particularly open to keeping a way to contact others laid off from your same firm. This includes those laid off after you. And those you were well acquainted with staying on.

When one of the other fellow employee is laid off, finds a new job, they MAY just be able to take you with them, and vice versa.
